Our newest kid on the block, JM Toneu was appointed as SDCE’s distributor for Spain at ITMA Barcelona earlier this year. Here founder and director Jordi Toneu reveals his plans for the expansion of the business throughout the Iberian Peninsula.
It is testament to Jordi Toneu’s business acumen and dedication that his own employer encouraged him to go it alone.
“I was selling SDCE products through Italian distributor Mesdan,” remembers Toneu. “But the company agreed that I should try to work directly with SDC Enterprises to be more competitive, and also to increase sales in my own territory.”
Jordi Toneu approached SDCE directly at ITMA Barcelona earlier this year and, following a successful interview, was appointed the official distributor for Spain. It’s an exciting new chapter for the textile testing specialist, who has already identified a lot of new opportunities across his home country.
“The market in Spain is very small compared to how it was 20 years ago but it still exists, and it has actually been looking more stable for the past five years,” he says. “I’m planning to work with higher end, more prestige companies and explore the potential of new business, as well as nurturing our existing accounts.”
JM Toneu’s approach to business has always been to work directly with each and every customer with no sub-distributors. The company was founded in 1981 by Jordi Toneu’s father, specialising in the sale of testing equipment for the textile industry.
“There is as much focus on sales and service as there is on the actual products,” says Toneu. “We have our own service station in Spain to offer customers a fast and competitive service, and the after-sales service in particular is the key point to gaining prestige in the market.”
Jordi Toneu and his team are now tasked with developing business across Spain, combining their expertise and local knowledge with the most well-regarded consumables in the industry.
